Why is it special? HAYDN
Why is it special? HAYDN
Why is it special? VIVALDI
Why is it special? SCHUMANN
I bet whoever claims that classical music is a complete bore has never seen Why is it special?, a ground-breaking and fun concert format that includes an intro where I explain in an amusing way the symphony to be performed next.
Doesn’t Mozart look a bit like Chuck Norris in a way, and doesn’t one of Mendelssohn’s symphonies have as many ingredients as a pizza? Aren’t ET the alien and the apes in 2001 a space odyssey present in some neoclassical and romantic pieces? Or where else did you think John William’s inspiration was coming from?
By using familiar examples and interesting parallelisms I help the public, and even the musicians, understand and appreciate classical music with a smile on their face. You will discover how classical music can pull out a smile from you too!
Why is it special? means a new twist to the traditional ways to teach classical music to both older and younger people. Its format combining rigor and entertainment, it takes you through the history of classical music by the hand of the greatest composers. It’s a concert to enjoy with the whole family!
Taking elements from musical theater and stand-up comedy, during the first half of the show I take the public on a tour around the context of the piece. Gags and fun examples will allow to easily understand some of its details before it is performed. There are even some who, like the music critic Luis Suárez, call me the Leonard Bernstein of the twenty fist century. I think that is too kind, but if the critic says so…

By drawing the audience closer to the peculiarities of the classical music through such amusing and ironic approach, Why is it special? lays out a guide that completely transforms their minds and make them discover nuances that would have remained unnoticed otherwise.
This way, the public comes to understand how a symphony is structured and what are the key elements that make it so special. During the second half of the show, the orchestra plays the piece previously analyzed seamlessly and in full.
Why is it special? is a unique and different show, a new take on the concert and a new approach to classical music that helps us understand, amid laughs and humor, the greatest pieces of classical music.
